PASSING OF BROTHER GREGORY JOHN BLOOMSTROM U OF MN 71′

Gregory John Bloomstrom, 63, of Walker, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, July 10, 2012 in Orlando, Florida.

Greg was born May 8, 1949 in Crosby, Minnesota to James and Lorraine (Magee) Bloomstrom. He graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School and then attended Augsburg College where he graduated with a degree in political science. Greg worked in law enforcement in California and Minnesota. While working for the City of Oakdale he met Kim Parenteau and they were married March 2, 1984 in Stillwater. They spent the next few years living in the St. Paul surburban area while Greg attended the William Mitchell College of Law. Prior to their move to Walker in 1997 they lived in Wisconsin and Silver Bay, Minnesota. Greg worked as an Assistant County Attorney for Cass County, retiring in February 2012. Following retirement he has spent time the last four months in Orlando. Greg enjoyed travelling, riding his motorcycle, reading, and doing crossword puzzles. Music was also a big part of Greg’s life. He loved to dance, listen to music, and taught himself how to play the guitar and piano. Greg also had a wise,philosophical side and was passionate about getting his point across during a good discussion. Under his strong and sturdy exterior was the big, soft heart of a man who loved his family and received great pleasure in being with his grandkids. He will be deeply missed.

Greg is survived by his daughters; Rachel (Scott) Peters, Jennifer (Adam) Jackson, Jaime (Aaron) Couch, Jilli (Brett) Peterson, Jaclyn Bloomstrom (Mike Wittner), his father James Bloomstrom, grandchildren; Tyler, Maddy, Zander, Mia, Mailena, Myla MaKynli, Finley, Hayden, sister Nancy Preu, many nieces and nephews, and many brothers and sisters in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife Kim, mother Lorraine, and brother-in-law Charlie Preu.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at 4:00 pm at Hope Lutheran Church in Walker with Pastor Harris Hosteger officiating. Visitation will be Monday, July 16, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at the Dennis Funeral Home in Walker and one hour prior to the service at the church.
